People in the storm-hit seaside town of Capitola used Friday’s break from rain to assess damaged areas, clear debris and make repairs.
Parts of the Capitola are cleaned and repaired around the clock.
Sea Level fashion shop owner Stacy Branson says she feels lucky. She may be out of power due to storm damage, but eventually discovers she can reopen.
“I wasn’t allowed to come to the village and check my business,” she said.
Red-tagged businesses and other restricted-access businesses should work with city planners and engineers to ensure compliance with Capitola’s action plan. I have.
“Our current plan is to clear the debris to make the area safe, reopen the roads and allow business owners access,” said Capitola Police Chief Sarah Ryan.
A big project is Capitola Wharf, which was hit hard by storm waves and is now without a lot of chuck.
“We have lived here for 35 years and have never seen anything like this,” said Deb Miciolotti, who lives in Santa Cruz. “We have been through a lot of storms and floods and it is quite amazing to see the pier actually closed. A good friend of ours owns a business at the very end of the pier. and I know he’s pretty devastated. It takes a lot of time and money to get him up and running.”
