Townwide Cleanup Day is a biannual event that encourages residents to actively participate in neighborhood maintenance and think of small ways they can make a difference throughout the year. Participants chose their own location and a Bloomfield DPW disembarked to pick up gloves, trash pickers, bags, rakes and shovels for use by participants.
Bloomfield Beautification Commission Chair Susan Mosesson said: “With the help of our DPW and police department, the streets, business areas, parks and gardens of Bloomfield have been cleaned again by enthusiastic residents. Special thanks to town staff Kim Beese and Jason Wiles for their help in organizing this event.Bloomfield will continue to be a caring, united town for a common cause.”
“When we started this project just a few years ago, less than 40 residents participated. Today, more than 400 residents, including individuals, adults, children, school groups and community organizations, are involved in cleanup projects across the town. We are actively working on it,” said Mundell. “This is what makes Bloomfield so special. Here we have taken ownership of the community and have seen the impact of these activities over time. Communities have less visible trash on a regular basis, residents are more likely to report problems, and township managers take care of them. I cannot thank all the participants, committees, council colleagues, public safety departments, public works departments, and town administrators for their efforts.”
The next townwide cleanup event is scheduled for spring 2023. Residents interested in participating in the Bloomfield Beautification Commission should contact Mundell at jmundell@bloomfieldtwpnj.com.
