    West Alice storm damage, cleanup

West Alice was cleaning up after bad weather uprooted trees and blocked some streets with debris.

West Alice, Wisconsin. – Severe weather, including possible thunderstorms and tornadoes, hit southeastern Wisconsin on Wednesday, October 12.

The National Weather Service will try to survey the area on Thursday to determine if the tornado has made landfall. Milwaukee area reported hurricane-strength gusts.

First came the warning, the siren and the wind. It didn’t take long for people to assess the damage and start cleaning up the mess.

In West Alice, a violent storm uprooted trees and knocked down branches. Debris blocked the streets and sidewalks. Neighbors worked to move things sideways. A woman told Fox6 News what she saw when the storm rolled in.

“After I heard the tornado sirens, maybe a few seconds later, I saw trees as if (circling) from the back window,” Ljubitza Susak said.

Officials in West Alice had closed the city’s dump site later Wednesday due to the storm and planned to reopen at 7:15 a.m. Thursday.

Near 84th Street and Hayes in West Alice, the city brought in a front-end loader and chainsaw to trim uprooted trees.

Six tornadoes may have made landfall Wednesday between Brown Deer and Whitewater in southeastern Wisconsin, according to the National Weather Service.

From the airport to every corner of the FOX6 viewing area, Wednesday’s warning wasn’t just a caution.

When a storm hit Cudahy, DPW employees cleared their schedules and got to work.

DPW Director Frank Miller said: “We’ve seen a lot of downed power lines and downed trees.

We had plenty of work to do in the afternoon, but thankfully no property damage.

“All the trees that fell fell onto the road, none of them fell into cars, nothing fell in the wrong direction and into houses. We were very lucky,” Miller said.
