Last Saturday something amazing happened. The day was wonderful, refreshingly cold. A deluge of caring Montecitans gathered in the Upper Village in front of the Tecolote Book Shop. They chatted with their neighbors over coffee and pastries. were you there? In case you missed it, beautification day is an annual Montecito tradition held on the first Saturday of November each year.
Our community sponsors this event and this year’s theme is “Bee kind, nice, and happy. We are the kind community of Montecito.” Nina Terzian provided the theme, which the team enthusiastically embraced. Marborg provided all heavy equipment. Lunch was provided by the Montecito Village Grocery and San Ysidro Ranch and cooked by the Montecito Fire team of experts. Montecito Water District provided water and Casa Dorinda provided soft drinks. Community sponsors funded event costs, including a cleanout for the Hands Across Montecito team, from which he cleared 1.5 tons of trash and employed six of his men who are currently homeless or recently incarcerated. provided.
Beautification Day is a truly community-warming all-hands event where Montecitan reaches out to this community with love and picks up trash and debris. It’s a day to see what makes this community great, not gated exclusive real estate or celebrities.
This was our first Beautification Day post COVID and it was very inspiring. It was like old times but new and better. This year, more young people than ever participated in cleanup activities. They may not be able to vote, but our children can certainly shape this community for now and for the future.
It was a perfect day with beautiful sunshine and blue skies just before the rain.
