111 lbs. Number of debris collected during the dive at the GSP pier
David “Pier Pounder” Thornton
Dive For Debris (underwater cleanup) held at the Gulf State Park Pier on October 23rd was a huge success thanks to favorable weather and water conditions. Water emerged in a remote octagon reported to be 23 feet deep. His 20 divers, including Daphne Search and Rescue, participated. Divers were assisted by Orange Beach police and fire department boats. In total, 111 pounds of various marine debris were removed from under the pier and cataloged.
Many local businesses donated prizes to volunteers (divers and support personnel).
