Less than a month after Hurricane Ian made landfall in Lee County, 1,020 miles (1,020 miles) of road was cleared in the first pass collection of storm debris. This includes vegetation and structural debris removed from county-managed roads.
This represents the distance from Fort Myers to Washington, DC.
Hurricane Ian left a large amount of debris for Lee County residents. In many cases, neighborhoods that receive the first pass collection quickly fill up the curbs with additional debris. Collection trucks will be back for additional transits, but we are currently working to provide initial transits to each area of unincorporated Lee County.
“Our job is not complete until the hurricane debris is cleared from the roadside.” Lee County Solid Waste Director Doug Whitehead said:
More information about debris removal is available on the county’s website, along with a debris removal information dashboard. The dashboard shows the latest debris removal map.
