Starting a business can be a daunting task, but Marshalltown resident Christian Dubon is ready to take on the challenge with his new company, Superior Demolition and Junk Removal.

Dubon had several motivations for starting the business. It stemmed from both his previous work at the Iowa State Men’s Training School in Eldora and his lifelong desire to be self-employed. The stress of training school made Dubon want a change.

“I think I was ready to do my own thing. I always wanted to be my own boss. I always wanted more freedom with my time,” Dubon said. Told. “I felt like I was ready to start my own journey.”

The company specializes in commercial and residential interior demolition, debris removal and other services. Dubon chose to pursue this field over others after seeing his friend Israel Gonzalez running a similar successful business in Indianola at just his 23 years of age.

“He was definitely one of my inspirations for starting my own business. He’s the one who helps me,” Dubon said. “He’s guiding me and pointing me in the right direction.”

Dubon had Superior up and running within a month. With the paperwork in place to make it official, and the vacation time he had accumulated from his previous job paid, he was equipped with the basic equipment needed for a demolition company (trailers, jackhammers, saws, and various other tools). I was able to invest.

At this point, Dubon’s team is small as he, his brother, and his friend are the only workers. For now, Dubon is on the job, but hopes to grow enough in the future to return to a more managerial role.

“I try to promote the company as much as I can to grow it to the point where I don’t have to do the work myself. I want to hire local people. Basically, I run the business myself. I think it’s just

He also sees this as a way to give back to the community by offering jobs to residents and a service to clean up the debris and debris left after both the 2018 tornadoes and the 2020 Derecho. increase. .

Dubon’s wife, Gaby, fully supports the company and participates as co-owner of Superior Demolition and Junk Removal. Although she’s not part of the demolition team, Dubon said she’s “an investor in a way,” because she supported him from the beginning.

With the foundation in place, all that’s left is to start working. Their first job is scheduled for the weekend.

“It’s a small job, but it’s a job,” Dubon said.
